I help "women of a certain age" feel more calm, confident and connected through integrated psychiatric interventions tailored to your unique needs.

Certain Psychiatry utilizes traditional medication management strategies alongside behavioral therapy approaches, mind-body practices and lifestyle coaching to help you identify and meet your goals.

Who are "women of a certain age"?

Historically, 'women of a certain age' has been a euphemism for women who were considered to be beyond the ideal marriageable age (ugh. insert eye-roll). Today, the phrase is often used to refer to women who are revered for their maturity and experience.  As one definition puts it: "At their time of life!"

I see adult women of all ages, and my practice is best suited for women who may be managing:

01

Career Crossroads

They may be starting a second (or third, or fourth!) career, preparing for retirement and/or just managing the stressors of work and trying to find balance in their lives.

02

Periods?  Please.

They may be perimenopausal or  post-menopause, whether naturally or medically/surgically induced. They may still be actively parenting, but they aren't having any more kids.

03

Relationship Rodeo

They may be figuring out how to better relate to their partner, their family or their colleagues and friends. They may be interested in starting new relationships, ending old ones, or improving the ones they have.

04

Soul Seeking

They may be at a junction in their life, such as illness, caregiving, divorce or bereavement. They may be struggling with concentration, motivation or mood, or just feeling "stuck" and they want to feel better.

I Am:

  • a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner trained at Yale University
  • a clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience in providing a variety of therapeutic interventions to support patients in making changes, large and small, in their lives and relationships
  • also a woman of a "certain age" who understands the struggles that accompany this era of your life
  • a warm and patient listener, learner, advocate and champion for you, with a personable (and occasionally irreverent) interactional style
  • a breast cancer survivor, music lover, puzzle solver, road-tripper and dog mama

You Are:

  • Interested in a true partnership with your provider who gives you time and space just for YOU
  • Feeling stuck, frustrated, distracted or otherwise dissatisfied with how you're functioning
  • Curious about yourself and and motivated to learn how to remove your roadblocks
  • Looking for a multi-pronged approach to your care
  • Willing to earnestly try suggestions and report back honestly about what you discover
  • Tired of 'treatment as usual' appointments where you may feel rushed and unheard

What Integrative Psychiatry is, and what it is not:

  • It is a holistic approach to assessing and treating patients which encompasses the mind, body and spirit and assumes patient openness to try suggestions
  • It is a relationship-centered, personalized plan of care which respects the patient's belief system, priorities and expertise
  • It brings together various modalities, including conventional Western medicine, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications

  • It is not a one-size fits all approach - this is treatment based on your goals, preferences, abilities and willingness to explore
  • It does not vilify the use of pharmaceuticals for symptom management, AND it knows that "magic pills" don't exist; sustained wellness requires more.
  • It does not agree that there is only one way to a solution and looks at all aspects of one's life to tap into more complete and satisfying outcomes
